Remembering our Civil War Veterans

Gene Wendelborn, himself a Navy Veteran of WWII, had volunteered at the County's Historical Society for many years. His goal was to ensure that all veterans buried in Washington County were properly honored. During the past 20 years all of our county's cemeteries were canvassed with special attention paid to those who have served.
His efforts have brought us to where we are today, ready to begin placing the necessary monuments in our cemetaries to honor those who served during the civil war. Sadly Gene passed away in August 2014 before this next and final phase of the plan could be completed.
The mission of the Civil War Monument Committee is to finish a most honorable project that Gene began all those years ago. And what more fitting time than now, the 150th Anniversary of the conclusion of the Civil War, to finish the project.
Our goal is to place monuments, like the one at the Holy Angles Cemetery, in each of the following locations in honor of our Washington County Civil War Veterans.
* Addison 5 Veterans - 2 monuments
* Barton 34 Veterans - 5 monuments
* Erin 14 Veterans - 3 monuments
