HELP RAFAEL JENSEN'S BRAIN HEAL

Donation protected
Traumatic Brain Injury has been shown to deeply impact school performance and quality of life for     children and teens.

Fourteen-year old Rafael Jensen suffered a traumatic brain injury when his sled hit a tree earlier this year. His emergency treatment costs while in the ER and Intensive Care Unit were astronomical -- $47,372.  Insurance covered part of it, and the medical bills continue to mount as Rafael continues with treatments to fully recover.

Rafael’s CT scan revealed a subdural hematoma, fractured skull and a cyst on his left temporal lobe.  His physician recommended follow-up SPECT scans at the Amen Clinic in San Francisco, which were recently completed.  The Amen Clinic created a targeted  treatment plan specifically for Rafael to address the injury and how it affects his functioning.

Even with generous discounts and negotiations, the remaining outstanding costs total $10,752.  Getting this paid would be a huge relief for Rafael’s family, as they continue treatments and pray for Rafael’s full recovery.

Together we can help Rafael’s brain heal.

Won’t you please help right now? Just think, if 100 friends and relatives each donate $107,  Rafael’s medical bills will be brought up to date.  That is all it will take.

Affectionately known as Rafa by his mother, Theresa Jensen, who is a single parent and sole breadwinner, this young man has been raised with great love and care. His mother is worried about her son’s future: “I am doing all I can to raise a kind, compassionate, conscientious young man who will someday be a blessing to many,” shares Theresa, “but brain trauma can derail his life.”  Rafael excels in sports but his learning capability is severely impacted by his traumatic brain injury which can be a long road to recovery. Oddly enough, Theresa also suffered from head trauma many years ago when, as a pedestrian, she was hit and run over by a truck.  Recovery has been tough for both but together we can all help to make their future brighter.

Rafael is an active, vibrant fourteen-year old attending ninth grade at Ashland High School in Oregon. He is athletic and smart.  Rafael loves music and plays percussion in the school band.  He is compassionate and inquisitive but also suffers from ADHD--so sports are an important part of Rafael’s life.  Rafa was heart-broken last spring when he learned he could not take up pole-vaulting with the Track team following the accident.  In the fall, his family and friends encouraged him to do Crew instead.

Rafa was eager as he is willing to try anything to be healthy again, including being subjected to uncomfortable tests to decipher what treatments will help his brain heal.

Rafael struggled with cognitive deficits in the months following the accident.  The first time he looked at his homework, he drew a total blank and had no idea what to do.  With lots of support from teachers and friends, Rafa pulled through.  Rafa’s homeroom teacher shared, “I am really impressed and proud of Rafael’s journey.  By the end of the year, he was counted on as a leader and his attitude and effort were outstanding.”

Funds raised will be responsibly stewarded and will be exclusively utilized to pay  Rafael’s medical bills and medical travel expenses, which currently total  $10,752.

Won’t you please donate $107 today or any amount you can afford?  If you can provide more it will be greatly appreciated but any amount will be a blessing.

Together—with your help—Rafael’s brain will be healed and he will have a promising future.

Thank you very much.  All of your support and prayers are greatly appreciated!
