This is the official Pulse Victims Fund page for Equality Florida, the state's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. Equality Florida is collecting contributions via this GoFundMe page to support every single victim of the horrific shooting at Orlando's Pulse Nightclub. This includes victims’ families, survivors, and those in the club who may not have suffered physical injury but in need of support.

For information regarding how funds will be disbursed directly to the victims' families and survivors, please refer to below links:

Equality Florida, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida (The Center) and the National Compassion Fund announced a partnership with OneOrlando to ensure all funds collected for victims are disbursed in a unified process that will expedite funds, ensure transparency and safeguard against fraud.

We have made available emergency deployment of short-term disbursements from our fundraising efforts, and connected victims with the immediate funds available via state and federal resources. We are committed to raising as much as we can to ensure long-term support for the victims’ families and survivors. The money raised towards this fund directly supports the victims families and survivors.

We ask all victims to call this hotline to begin this process:

Equality Florida statement on mass shooting at Orlando gay club:

We are reeling from the tragic news that a gunman opened fire on the 2am capacity crowd at Pulse leaving 49 people dead and over 50 injured according to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

We are heartbroken and angry that senseless violence has once again destroyed lives in our state and in our country.

Gay clubs hold a significant place in LGBTQ history. They were often the only safe gathering place and this horrific act strikes directly at our sense of safety. June commemorates our community standing up to anti-LGBTQ violence at the Stonewall Inn, the nightclub that has become the first LGBTQ site recognized as a national monument.

We have received a steady stream of emails and messages from those seeking to help or to make sense of the senseless. We make no assumptions on motive. We will await the details in tears of sadness and anger. We stand in solidarity and keep our thoughts on all whose lives have been lost or altered forever in this tragedy.

"You must honor them with action.”

That’s the message we heard from survivors of other mass shootings who flew to Orlando to stand with us following the worst anti-LGBTQ hate crime in U.S. history. It’s the same message Christine Leinonen, mother of Drew Leinonen, one of the 49 lives lost, gave at the Democratic National Convention yesterday evening. You can watch her incredibly moving speech here: http://bit.ly/2axTa25.

At Equality Florida, we have taken those words to heart. We must ensure that the lasting memorial to this tragedy is real and meaningful change. You've stood with us to support the victims, and now we invite you to be a part of the work of uprooting hatred, and the discrimination and violence that stems from it, by helping us launch our Equality Forward campaign: http://bit.ly/2bkJbus.

We’ve set a goal of raising $250,000 to ensure we can accomplish our goals, which include:

-Building a broad-based coalition of diverse voices speaking up for LGBTQ equality, including grassroots activists, business leaders, campus organizers, and faith leaders.
-Passing statewide nondiscrimination protections.
-Ensuring schools provide a welcoming climate for LGBTQ students.
-Mobilizing pro-equality voters in this critical election year.

We can rid our culture of the toxic dehumanization of LGBTQ people -- and instead, build a country that welcomes, protects, and embraces diversity. But we can’t do it alone.

In the aftermath of this shooting rampage, we stood together - as a city, a nation and more than 120 countries to deliver the message that we are stronger than hate. Help us keep that spirit alive by contributing directly to the work of Equality Florida to honor our fallen with action: http://bit.ly/2bkJbus.

So far you have helped us raise $7.6 million for the Pulse Victims Fund. And as promised, every single dime is going directly to the victims’ families and survivors of this horrific hate crime.

Now, we are asking you to stand with us again. Please take a moment to click here and make a contribution. With your donation of $35 or more, we’ll send you a beautiful Orlando #ForThe49 t-shirt.

We are grateful to you for standing with us and for responding to hate with love and generosity. Together, we will honor with action and make this world a better place for us all.

Gratefully,

Nadine Smith
CEO, Equality Florida

PS - I hope you will wear your #ForThe49 t-shirt in pride and remembrance. Please share this link to invite other to join in this effort to honor through action: http://bit.ly/2bkJbus

Today marks one-month since the horrific massacre at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub.

Since that moment, the global community has mobilized, via this Go Fund Me site, to raise $7.1 million dollars to directly support the victims’ families and survivors. The vast majority of contributions are small-dollar gifts with less than 700 donations for $1,000 or more. We have also seen incredible support from partner organizations, corporate partners, and high-profile celebs, using their positions of power to raise critically needed resources. To each and every single donor, no matter the donation amount, we are eternally grateful.

As we continue to fundraise to support the victims’ families and survivors, it is clear, even in the midst of our grief and anger, that we must do something profoundly different to finally put an end to the hatred that fuels this type of senseless violence.

Equality Florida exists to do this work only because of widespread and committed grassroots support. We are more determined than ever to rid our culture of the toxic dehumanization of LGBT people. But we need your help to move Equality Forward.

We are asking everyone to take a stand #ForThe49 to uproot anti-LGBT hatred and discrimination.

By sharing the #ForThe49 pledge, you’re taking a decisive stand on the side of justice and equal protection for ALL. You’re promising to speak out against hatred, homophobia, and bigotry in any form they take. And you’re joining us as we build a country that welcomes, protects, and respects the worth and dignity of each of us.

As we mark one month sine the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, please:

-Continue to share this Go Fund Me page with your networks. Every dollar is critical to support the victims' families and survivors of this horrific hate crime.

-Share our #ForThe49 pledge right now. Let this movement be the lasting memorial to those who were taken from us: www.eqfl.org/forthe49

To our incredible contributors, please see the press release below highlighting our fundraising efforts thus far, and the profound impact you have had.

All our love, from Orlando, Florida.
----------------------------
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Equality Florida’s Pulse Victims Fund Surpasses $7.0 Million
Celebs and Elected Leaders Among the Nearly 120,000 donors

An online fundraiser for the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting set up by Equality Florida has raised $7.0 million in a campaign that continues to break records for online philanthropy.

Equality Florida launched the GoFundMe campaign hours following news of the horrific shooting with an initial goal of raising $100,000. The campaign became the quickest to reach $1.0 million, the first to reach $2.0 million, and stands at $6.9 million raised from over 117,000 contributors from 120 countries. Combined with offline fundraising efforts, total contributions now exceed $7.0 million.

“The outpouring of love and support from across the globe has been overwhelming,” said Equality Florida executive director Nadine Smith. “We are grateful for the small-dollar gifts that comprise the bulk of this fund, and contributions from those who have used their positions of power to support the victims and families.”

The vast majority of contributions are small-dollar gifts with less than 700 donations for $1,000 or more. The contributions showcase countless local restaurants, bars, and small businesses who have hosted their own fundraising efforts in support of the fund; as well as several advocacy organizations who have contributed, including Executive Pride, The Gill Foundation, Campaign for Southern Equality, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Several large corporate donors have also contributed to Equality Florida’s Pulse Victims Fund, including the Tampa Bay Rays, GoFundMe, Hamburger Mary's Restaurants, WePay, Tito’s Vodka, and MGM Resorts International.

Equality Florida’s Pulse Victims Fund also received support from several high-profile donors, including Jeffree Star, Philip DeFranco, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, California’s Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Stuart Milk, and Lena Dunham.

Earlier today, GLAAD and Interscope Records released “Hands,” a musical tribute to the victims of Orlando, featuring 24 musical artists. The tribute will be made available at iTunes exclusively. Proceeds from the sale of the new tribute single in the United States will benefit the Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, and GLAAD. Listen HERE.

All contributions collected via Equality Florida’s Pulse Victims Fund GoFundMe campaign will go to victims’ families and survivors without exception. The distribution of the fund is being coordinated with the City of Orlando’s OneOrlando Fund to ensure speed, transparency, and to prevent fraud.

I see a lot of comments questioning the legitimacy of this campaign. There is nothing wrong with being careful before donating your money, but this is an easy one to confirm. Rather than leave a negative comment that may discourage others from donating, please just do a little research to allay your suspicions. Ida Vishkaee Eskamani, the creator of this campaign, is a development officer for Equality Florida. You can see her on their staff page here. http://www.eqfl.org/staff Equality Florida is the largest LGBTQ civil rights organization in Florida.
