Project Sparsh is designed under SDG 3 Good health and well-being, 10 reduced inequalities and 4 Quality Education. Sparsh which replicates for a touch that shows intimacy, compassion and harmony. Hiv/Aids and sexual harassment still are taken as social taboo and norms which are not supposed to discussed in public. Our working principle is to provide access of information to underprivileged and marginalized group of people.
Biratnagar is one of the fastest developing cities of Nepal. Connecting with India border, the people of Biratnagar are bound to both pros and cons. HIV/AIDS program at a border side place is an effective choice to implement awareness campaign. There is a high scope for project sparsh to spread information and education on sexual harassment and STDs.
Project Sparsh is going to conduct awareness program and 2- days long health camp at Lakhantari village, Biratnagar. Lakhantari village is only 30-40 kilometers far from the main city. Yet, the village is far away from access of information especially on social norms such as sexual harassment and HIV/AIDS. Dalit community (which is taken as untouchable still in the present context) are residing in the village. It is very important to implement the information session and health camp at a place where the literacy is below average.
Good health and well-being, Quality Education and Reduced inequalities are basic right every person deserves to possess. Yet, we have not been able to cope up with the necessity of development which will affect the future society! The village has 5000+ population where only 2000 people approx. were present in the past election. The area has 2 schools – primary and secondary where there is no access of high school education. The people are daily based labors and are treated as abandoned group of the society. We believe that, with project Sparsh, we will be able to spread awareness on sexual harassment, adequate information on HIV/AIDS and establish harmony, compassion and love resulting progress by reducing inequalities, quality education and good health and well- being.
