PDX Black Women's Feminism

$815 of $5,000 goal

Wow, I can't believe it's almost November!
I want to thank everyone again for supporting the PDX Black Women's Luncheon, last month.

I am revamping this campaign, as an ongoing funding source for the PDX Black Feminism group.

The purpose is to continue the work we started in September, with meetings, self-care activities, and community work.

This will hopefully accumulate into a larger event in June 2018, which will be open to allies.

Please continue to support and/or share with networks.
If you no longer wish to stay connected to this campaign,  I believe gofundme proves an option to unsubscribe.

We are working on another meeting in December. The gathering will be a celebration of the holidays, as well as a time for reflection. There's been a lot happening, especially in politics. What does the future hold for Black Women/Non-Binary people? We will explore our next step for 2018.

In December, we would love to have Kwanzaa themed meal provided by a local Black woman caterer (check out the photo of one of her delicious meals!)

Donations contributed to this campaign, will be used to host this event.

Please use gofund to message me, if you want to stay connected, but not via this campaign. I will forward you PDX Black Feminism's new email address.

Once again about me...

My name is Tonya Jones and I am the founder of Portland, Oregon's Women of Color Zine Workshops . I'm also the facilitator of PDX Black Feminism . I write a blog dedicated to media representations of Black women ("See Me" ).

Thank you again for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Tonya

It's November...a good time to renew this campaign. The PDX Black Feminism group has been a little stagnant this past month. We have been living busy lives. However, we are still committed to our work of empowering Black women. Our current focus is self-care/healing practices. Black women often give so much of ourselves, but rarely take time/space to just be.

The holidays are fast approaching. I would like the opportunity to provide the group outings to good meals, soak and sauna, artistic exploration, and culturally responsive therapy. Please think of making a donation and/or promoting our campaign this giving season.

Sincerely,
Tonya

Hello.

I hope everyone's summer has been going well.

It's been almost a year since we started this campaign. The purpose was to support March for Black Women a national event created by Black Women's Blueprint (BWP). BWP advocates for Black girls/women on the issues of gender violence, poverty, etc.

This year the BWP is hosting another march in Washington DC and sister marches across the country. The focus this year is on the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)which is set to expire at midnight, September 30, 2018.

PDX Black Feminism would like again to part of this movement. We want to restart this campaign to raise funds to host our own Black women's gathering on the 29th/30th. It will be an opportunity to speak about issues specific to us. And be in solidarity with the March for Black Women.

Please consider making a donation and/or promoting our campaign /the work of BWP.

Thank you,
Tonya

Hello! I hope all is well. It's almost summer, which means exciting happenings for PDX Black Women's Feminism!

Next month, we will be hosting a Juneteenth celebration.

"Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863."

This gathering will be open to members and friends/family. We want to make it a fun event with music, refreshments, and treats!

Please think about making a donation to support our work and/or promote this campaign. It's truly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Tonya :)
