Raising $ for Nonkululeko in Africa
Donation protected
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
My name is Nonkululeko Tyehemba. l grew up--and still live in Harlem, New York. I am celebrating my 50th anniversary as a Registered Nurse and my 35th Anniversary as a Certified Midwife and consider myself as a Midwife and Women's Reproductive Health Activist.
In March 2014, l had the opportunity to do a 4 month nurse-midwifery volunteer fellowship at the Edna Adan University Maternity Hospital in Somaliland, East Afrika. This part of Afrika has one of the highest infant and maternal mortality in the world. l saw many mothers and babies dying; but l also saw many babies and mothers saved.
Your financial contributions made it possible for me to buy the following items (and more) for the women and their families in Somaliland:
1. Large supply of towels and other linens for the inpatient units.
2. Surgical supplies and other miscellaneous supplies needed for the Maternity Units.
3. Resource Materials: Books, DVDs, Paper Supplies.
4. Workshop materials, food supplies for three antepartal food demonstrations that stressed the importance of good nutrition for healthy babies.
5. My room and board @ $5.00 per day x 120 days
l cannot begin to tell you how grateful they were because of your generous donations. While in Somaliland, l maintained a timely blog so that you could be with me, (go to my blog site- https://birthactionblog.wordpress.com). l am planning to return to the hospital between Jan. 25 and Jan.30 for another 3-month midwifery volunteer stint. When l asked the hospital director, “What should l bring?” she said, "Bring your professional skills and your warm heart".
My dear Sisters and Brothers, I am once again asking you to help FINANCIALLY SUPPORT this important project by contributing whatever you can to make a difference. Please visit: http://www.gofundme.com/Nonkulu-in-Afrika to make your donation.
We appreciate your support.
Respectfully Yours,
Nonkululeko Tyehemba, Nurse-Midwife
