Hamilton Lax: No One Left Behind

On April 28, 2008, Matt Zeller (Hamilton '04) was saved by his Afghan interpreter, Janis Shinwari. Two Taliban fighters nearly shot Matt when his translator saved his life, killing them both. This experience is not unique, as throughout the Afghan and Iraqi campaigns, translators have saved thousands of American and allied lives.
Despite Janis's 8 years of service alongside US troops, it took Matt over three years to secure Janis and his family visas. All the while, Janis and his family were living in fear as Taliban fighters hunt the translators who so bravely fought alongside American men and women.
Matt started No One Left Behind with one mission: to ensure that the US treats their interpreters as the heroes and veterans they are. No One Left Behind helps interpreters and their families get visas to the United States. Additionally No One Left Behind helps translators with temporary housing, employment searches, and even reconnecting translators with the US military members with whom they served.
Given recent uncertainty with US immigration policy, No One Left Behind needs your help more than ever. Translators and their families are fleeing to the US before another travel ban goes into effect. Translator Naqeebullah Milzikada and his family just recently arrived from Afghanistan where he and his family were living in danger, moving every two weeks to avoid being found by the Taliban (http://13wham.com/news/top-stories/afghani-translator-arrives-in-new-home-rochester.)
On April 22nd, Hamilton Men's Lacrosse squares off against NESCAC opponent Trinity College at Steuben Field. We would love to use this game as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for No One Left Behind. We hope you all will be able to join us as we support this worthy cause.
