Get Mr. Saxton to NCTE

I'm a teacher at Lamar Middle School in Austin, TX. In my classroom we do a lot of writing (ask the kids, they'll tell you). This is a blog I started this year to capture the amazing, interesting, and varied work they're doing in their writing notebooks.

I'm interested in supporting and cultivating writers the same way we do athletes. As their teacher, I work to get my kids to share, pay attention to, and value their thoughts, ideas, experiences, and backgrounds.

In November, I'll be presenting with three other Austin teachers at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention in Minneapolis (one of the biggest national conferences for English teachers) about the work we do in my room (here's our conference presentation page). Specifically, I'll be presenting on how students in my room drive the assessment of their own writing. 

I'm asking for your support for the following:
Conference Registration: $325
Travel Costs: $400
Lodging: $300

Simply going to NCTE is an opportunity English teachers celebrate (think "kid in a candy store"). Being invited to present is a privilege, an honor, and an opportunity I can't pass up.
