First Annual Marcus Edwards Day!

People like Marcus Edwards are truly one in a million and getting the opportunity to meet someone like him and be a part of that individual’s life is equally rare. Marcus was a kindhearted young man with a passion for education and developing his community. With the national spotlight on growing tension with law enforcement, Marcus sought to prove, in his community and on jis college campus, that both sides needed one another. He was deeply involved with his D.C. community and was a great role model to his younger siblings. Marcus was attending Morgan State University in 2016, working towards his degree in social work, when, one night as he was returning home from the gym, he was tragically murdered.  This senseless crime left our community devastated, but also wondering what we could do to honor his legacy and helps realize his dream.

At his funeral, Marcus was made an honorary police officer by the District of Columbia. He was to graduate from Morgan State University in December of 2017. Once he graduated, he hoped to become an officer and give back to his community.

Due to his great commitment to and enthusiasm for his work, The DC City Council made the resolution for Marcus Edwards Day on September 27th.  On this date, we at DC LEVEE, will be honoring Marcus by uniting police officers and youth so they can put their differences aside and come together to do service work and build a relationship that can help the upcoming generation, essentially allowing us to help realize Marcus’s dream. We ask that you help us make Marcus’s dream come true by participating in this event and showing your support on September 23rd, 2017. The event will be hosted at Cesar Chavez Parkside campus from 10:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.
