Nursing Home Tie Blankets

My name is Hannah Geiger and I am an aspiring nursing student at the College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. Along with my full time commitment as a student, I work as a nursing assistant at a local assisted living home. The residents I work for are some of the most influential individuals I have ever met. I have worked for retired nursing instructors, airplane pilots, and many devoted war veterans. Each shift builds stronger relationships, inspiring me to give back at least a fraction of what they have given to me and to this community.
I am raising money for one thing: locally-bought fleece fabric to create tie blankets for elderly individuals in Duluth.
The material for each blanket is estimated to cost roughly $15. The funds raised will contribute directly towards materials purchased from local fabric stores – all labor is volunteered.
These simple, handmade gestures will be absolutely priceless for many residents living in an assisted living home.
-These tie blankets are the perfect size for comforting residents in their wheelchairs, without the blankets interfering with the wheels.
-Everyday, residents express feeling cold and uncomfortable due to decreased ability to maintain body temperature. Lap-sized blankets are the perfect solution to provide warmth for the residents.
-Additionally, some residents are unable to personalize their rooms with sentimental objects. Colorful blankets will provide a cheerful setting, allowing residents to feel comfortable in their new home, overall improving emotional health.
