Mona Schlieper's Life Celebration

Donation protected
Thank you for visiting the GoFundMe for the Schlieper Family.  This page is dedicated to Mona Schlieper by friends of the Family.

Mona has been battling her second bout of metastatic breast cancer for the past four years, with the help of her oncologist Dr. D.  She's been an absolute WARRIOR throughout almost endless rounds of various chemotherapy, the latest being Opdivo. Unfortunately, the Opdivo failed and there are no more therapies which will help extend her life. She has been admitted to hospice care.

Mona has always been a fighter when it comes to battling cancer, especially since she has a very loving husband (Ryan) and a beautiful daughter (Miriya), both of whom adore her. She will continue to fight hard for every single moment she can spend with her family and friends.

As friends and family of the Schliepers, this is of course has been an extreme and unexpected shock.  It’s taken a couple of days for the news to sink in but we’ve discovered that Mona's hospice expenses largely won't be  covered by insurance and understand that other significant expenses that will arise.  Prior to this news, the Schlieper Family dedicated all resources to Mona's fight (to ensure she's had the best treatment possible despite the health insurance road blocks)

The prognosis is reflected in months as opposed to years and in the end Friends and Family would like to create a fund to support expenses.

There are two aspects to this…

Openly, First our rush is squarely and focused on celebrating Mona, Ryan and Miriya and the incredible presences they’ve brought to the world.

Right now, we'd also like to ask that you please SEND CARDS to Mona – NOTHING SAD please, but instead any encouraging words, jokes, humor, sentiments that will help her keep her chin up during this last phase of her fight. If you care to send gifts, gift cards, or little things for 10 year old Miriya, we're sure they would be welcome. (Miriya is into Pokemon and Minecraft.)

We would like to see her receive an AVALANCHE of cards with encouraging messages!

The address is:
Mona Schlieper
2012 Danderhall Way
San Jose, CA  95121

Secondarily, generating funds is something that we absolutely can help with.  Expenses are estimated to be $20K+.   PLEASE HELP by donating, sharing this on all forms of social media, local media (TV, radio, internet radio), by making groups and organizations aware of this, by doing anything and everything you can to help make every. single. moment. matter.

As an additional support mechanism, we’ll be creating a “Team Mona” t-shirt to celebrate and as an additional way to raise funds.  I’ll have details on the design /cost, etc shortly.

We are EXTREMELY grateful for anything and everything you do to help this family.   Every gesture to help is deeply appreciated.

Final note: This GoFundMe wasn't requested by the Schliepers, nor could I ever seeing them ask for something like this...they are too giving of time and heart.   Because they mean so much, at this time, it seems like something that the Village can do for them in this time of focus and need.

Every. Single. Moment. Matters.

About Mona, Ryan (and Miriya)...

Ryan and Mona bonded over the pageantry of marching band choreography, the amazing music in motion, precise steps that create artwork moving in time across a football field, flag corps lending an additional burst of color to a vibrant show that always left their audiences wanting more. Both of them created these shows, devoting endless hours in planning the steps, coaching the band members, nurturing everyone who participated in each pageant.

They realized early on, this wasn't just a common bond, it was an extended family. During competitions, they cheered on not only their bands but others, teaching sportsmanship and other crucial core values to young people who would pass these concepts on as they progressed. Mona and her husband have always believed in giving back to the community in every way possible, and marching bands, drum and bugle corps, area high schools...so may have benefited from their compassion and expertise. It's our turn to help them during this emotional, critical time.

Thank you again for being a part of this; please donate if you can, please make as many people aware of our campaign as possible. Updates will be posted; please return to this campaign for news.
