Compassionate Social Action India

Hi, we are Jayme and Sophia, two creative spirits from NYC. We are raising money to support the research and development of our compassionate social action project in India. At this time, we are focused on Delhi where there is a high rate of violence against women. While we are primarily focused on support and education to rebuild the lives of women harmed by rape and acid attacks, we are also visiting with organizations working with special needs children and families of extreme poverty. 

The dream goal is to build a program that will teach women English and haircutting skills as well as providing healing and mentoring services. Our hope is that this will help the women support themselves and their families after their lives have been tragically altered. This project has the capacity to change individual lives on a personal level, as well as demonstrate the power of transformation to other women, and to the world.

The funds we are raising at this time are to support the first phase of research—to assess the needs of our target communities, budget for the larger vision of the project, create a video to present the project to grant organizations and to provide a voice for the people that we are invested in helping. 

Jayme has been traveling to India for twenty years, and in October 2015, she was in Delhi. After hearing story after story about horrendous acts against women, she realized it was no longer okay to keep taking from this beautiful country, and that she needed to start giving back. After a chance meeting with Delhi-based social activist, Bina Ramani, our idea started to take shape and an opportunity to redefine beauty for these women seemed like it could be a reality.

We, Sophia and Jayme, have been longtime friends and artistic collaborators, but around this time found our lives and goals aligned in this new direction. We are putting everything into this idea that we can make a change by practicing presence, caring, and showing up as witnesses and voices to those who need it.
