Funding to help us adopt a child

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Sam and my partner is Ali. I have fibromyalgia and ME, and this is our story as to why we are here....

After a couple of years of trying for a baby unsuccessfully, we decided to give fertility treatment a go. Unfortunately we weren’t advised very well initially and had a couple of clomid treatments which didn’t work. The second clinic advises us we shouldn’t have had the clomid treatments. Our parenting future was not looking hopeful, plus we’d wasted money.

I was recommended to try a different clinic where we decided to try egg donation. Off we went to sunny Alicante, all excited and positive. Our donor didn’t produce many eggs, but 2 of them managed to get fertilised. One was implanted, the other frozen for a second chance should the first one not work.... it didn’t and it was a hard pill to swallow particularly as I “felt” pregnant. Still, we had one more chance so off we went to Alicante again. Again the implant didn’t work and we couldn’t afford to start over. That was the end of that journey.

After an emotional year and a half, we started to discuss adoption and fostering. We looked into fostering but it was suggested that adoption would be more suitable for us. We went along to an info session, found it really encouraging, and left feeling very positive though a tad emotional hearing such sad stories of some of these children’s lives. If anything it made us want to start the adoption process even more. To give a child a loving family, and the best opportunities possible.

We had had the initial interview and left disheartened. We were then told that due to my illness and our financial situation, they deferred us for 6-12 months in order for us to get our finances in a better way and get some savings underway.

We were quite confused as to why we would need savings and after researching this, I got the answer. During the first year of adopting a child, a couple can take up to 12 months off in order to allow the child to settle in properly. This 1-12 months are paid at a rate of £140 per week. As I am unable to work due to my health, Ali would need to take time off to assist the settling in period and we wouldn’t have enough funds to dip in to to support our new family.

This is is why we are asking if anyone would care to donate to our funding so we would have some money set aside to help us cope in the initial weeks/months. I was reluctant to do this at first, but after talking to friends about it, I realised that this is not a selfish request. We would be helping a child to be loved, have a happy family life and have chances they might not have had if left for the “system” to look after them.

If you can relate to anything I’ve said, or just want to be able to give a child a chance of happiness please donate to this cause.

Thank you for you time, we really appreciate it.
