Home of Refuge: Peru Fund

Donation protected
In 1994 my grandfather, Tony, visited Venezuela to speak at a church event. While he was there he noticed children begging in the streets. He inquired about those children to a man nearby, and his response was, “Those are the future criminals of our society. They are disposable.” Tony, having grown up on the streets of Puerto Rico himself, felt a movement in his heart. He couldn't stand idly by. Soon after, he started Home of Refuge, and in the past twenty-two years has expanded it to also reach children in Honduras and Peru.

I grew up my entire life hearing stories about the great need of these orphans in Venezuela, Honduras, and Peru. Like my grandfather, I cannot stand idly by. That is why I'm going with a small team to the Home of Refuge in Peru this July. We're going to be helping an all boys orphanage in Lima with agricultural projects (so the orphanage can help sustain itself), cooking, cleaning, and playing with the children.

We're also taking a trip to Cusco with the Home of Refuge team, about 2 hours from Lima. Above the city of Cusco there is a mountain with villages of people in need and many orphans. Our plan is to hike the mountain, provide provisions for some of the villages there, and to bring back to the orphanage any orphans who are in need of a home. This month the Home of Refuge team was able to rescue a little boy from the mountain villages, taking him back to the orphanage in Lima where he has found food, clothing, friendship, and education!

I'm hoping that when we leave on this trip in July of 2017, we will have raised $3,000 to purchase blankets, school supplies, and bicycles for the kids.

Your support can help provide shelter, education, and housing for orphans in Peru. Your donations are tax deductible, and will be funneled through the Home of Refuge, meaning that 100% of your donation will go straight to helping kids in Peru

When I asked my grandmother for some photos and videos of work done by Home of Refuge and of the kids, she didn't have many. It’s my project to also document our time in Peru with photos and videos so the Home of Refuge can have content to promote the work they're doing overseas!

Please consider donating here to the kids in Peru. Even a small gift can make such a big difference.

*This video is from last summer, when Home of Refuge donated enough money for the orphanage to get materials needed to make blankets for the winter.
