Housing Families with HIV/AIDS

$1,260 of $350,000 goal

Raised by 15 people in 40 months
When our late Founder, Didi Kelley, opened up her home and heart to people living with AIDS back in 1989, housing and homelessness was the number one issue.
Sadly, today, in 2016 and 2017, our region continues to be plagued by too few rental units which demand very high prices. This effectively leaves the working poor and ill with choices that range from substandard to unhealthy!
We want to buy with your help a new house with at least three rental units that we can fill with low income families who are living with HIV/AIDS. Our house will be clean, neat, tidy, and beautiful - we can do this and still offer low rents to keep families intact and able to live with dignity!

Long Island is one of the most beautiful places in our nation. It is also one of the most expensive places due to its high cost of living and lack of affordable rental spaces.
People with HIV and AIDS often cannot work, many live with Social Security as income, many others do their best to struggle to feed their families. Far too many live in fear of losing the roof over their heads for reasons not always under their control: problems such as poverty, lack of adequate transportation, access to food shopping, high utility costs, and poorly maintained housing continue to plague our region.
We ask your help as we embark on a new independent, supportive housing project: we seek to raise $500,000 in 2017 to buy, renovate, and make energy efficient, a new apartment residence!
In return, we will permanently house persons and families who are living with HIV/AIDS with safety, dignity, and respect. And with affordable rents!
Founded in 1989 and incorporated in 1991 as an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, the mission of Thursday’s Child is to develop, to coordinate and to provide services to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS on Long Island, NY.
Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law; our Annual Financial Statements are open to public inspection and on file with the New York State Attorney General, Charities Registration Bureau.

Too many people living with HIV and AIDS live with fixed incomes and by definition cannot afford decent, safe housing.
What limited 'stock' there is available, well, it's often sub-standard, even for those with financial assistance.
Help us put a small dent in this grotesque problem that a caring, decent society should not tolerate!
Help us find donors large and small who can provide the means to do what we do: help families stay in their life-saving medical care which will being about the END to the AIDS crisis here!

For those seeking to make donations to a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charity before the end of the year 2016, Thursday's Child is kicking off a new goal for 2017: raise enough capital to start new independent, supportive housing program for People Living with HIV and AIDS on Long Island, NY.
If you have the means and ability, please help!
