Donating to this cause is donating to the future generations of not only Bosnia, but the world itself.
The "Bosana Foundation" is an NGO aimed at helping marginalized youth in Bosnia get a college education, as well as provide them with job training, mentoring, and internships along the way. While this may seem like an everyday cause, I promise it is not. The situation in Bosnia is quite unique, specifically because between 1992-1995 the second worst genocide in European history occurred on Bosnian soil. Several children were left orphaned and families left without any resources to provide for a better future. The current economic situation is reflective of this and there is a dire need for change, if Bosnia is to ever become economically stable. With the cost of university averaging $3,000 annually, families are not able to afford this investment in their children’s future. And without the investment in Bosnia’s youth the outlook is not bright.
To successfully do this, BOSANA needs support. That’s why Humanity First is organizing a charity dinner, on October 23rd at 7PM at the University of Texas at Austin in the SAC Ballroom! The event will include a silent auction that will create a direct historical and social link to Bosnia and the donor. Furthermore, it will feature facts and personal anecdotes from special guest speakers: Edina Lekovic and Amir Caus.
At the event, we will first and foremost bring attention to the tragedy that occurred on Bosnian soil. Only once the audience is brought up to speed on what the average teenager has endured growing up in Bosnia, will they be able to understand why the prospects in Bosnia are still so grim. If we are able to fund even 2 students for a year, that would increase the chances of a break in the cycle.
Humanity First, an international relief organization that focuses on human development and disaster relief by working with underprivileged communities, hopes by hosting this fundraiser to provide the tools and resources to students for future success.
