What are we investing in if not our own community and its leaders?
The community leadership trip to Africa is a One Month pilgrimage for local leaders who currently enrich their communities with culture, character, spirit and leadership. This scholarship is solely for those who have not yet visited Africa.
Congratulations to China Hudson for being the first recipient of the Community Leadership Scholarship to Africa! China Hudson is a pillar in the Las Vegas community, a powerful leader currently enriching the lives of youth and families through culture, character, theater, spirit and leadership. This scholarship will provide a philanthropist, community leader, advocate and sister, her first trip to the land she already brings to our local Las Vegas community; deeply enhancing her work with our youth and families in the Valley.
Ms. China, a single mother, finds the time to teach African Dance at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, provides mentoring to approximately 100 young girls a year through her Girls Rites of Passage Program, as well as many more youth through her mentorship, cultural and theater programs at facilities like Pearson, Walnut Recreation, West Las Vegas Arts Center, the Smith's Center and the Clark County School District. She additionally helps to facilitate the annual Kwanzaa program, voluntarily performs African dance at community and charity events, shows up for elders in the community as needed and routinely volunteers for both charities and directly with local families in need.
As a result of this journey Ms China, and the team ushering her journey, will host a private gathering for all donors and organizational contributors upon thieir return. You will get to see, hear and touch the journey, the various places and experiences they had, and how Ms. China will use this trip to further enrich her programs, her leadership and the community at large. Look forward to receiving a gift of your own, a live performance and intimate experience.
Further, as the first recipient of the Community Leadership Scholarship to Africa, Ms China is initiated into a commitment that ensures that future awardees, of this scholarship, have the same opportunity to share in the responsibility of bringing this authentic experience into our local community.
GIFTING in AFRICA
As a part of our trip we will be taking one extra suitcase each that will have items to gift while we are in Africa. These will go to school, orphanages, women's and girls organizations, merchants, families and locals. We are also taking donations of these items that can be dropped off at a Foundation downtown, or pick up can be arranged by contacting us directly through Go Fund Me.
We will be taking cell phones (that take sim cards), cameras, electronics and medical items, over the counter medications, school supplies (light in weight), tennis shoes, t-shirts (especially those that are sports related, or have US cities on them), other nice clothes items, feminine products, toys, etc, These items will go to people of all ages.
This trip will additionally include an ongoing blog, community connections, and live streaming from Africa for those who wish to share in the experience! Get Connected and Stay Tuned.
