What Am I Doing?

I am standing as a candidate for the Social Democrats in Dublin Central because Dublin Central is where I was born and reared.  Dublin Central is where I now spend my time, working with the organisations and the people of our community to try to make our area a better place to live, work and raise a family. I do that because this community built me, and I owe it to it to repay that debt by working tirelessly to make the services available in the area worthy of the people who inhabit it.

In my two years so far as the representative on Dublin City Council, I have advocated around housing, education, drugs and pollution. I have also provided creative ways for the community to come together through two assemblies I held with The Abbey Theatre which explored issues through conversation, music and theatre.

In the work I have had successes like those assemblies, but I have also found the systemic failings that already exist around inequality, housing and education challenging, frustrating and in truth, at times it has made me angry. I still feel like i felt in 2014, when I was elected, when my campaign slogan was 'We Deserve Better'  and I have arrived at the decision that in Ireland, to affect local change, we must work towards a national vision. The system needs a radical overhaul. And that is why I have arrived at 'New Vision. New Politics' .

By becoming a Social Democrat, under the leadership of Catherine Murphy TD, Róisín Shortall TD and Stephen Donnelly TD, I have joined a group of people with exceptional integrity and character, who embody the kind of principled leadership that this country has lacked for decades. Our mission is to open up the way politics is done in Ireland so as to better serve its people, to strengthen Ireland’s economy towards a sustainable and prosperous future which has at its centre, the cause of social justice and equality.

Together, I believe we can make a better Ireland for all of our citizens. Together, I believe we can build a republic that we can all be proud of, a republic that belongs to us all. This campaign is a small part of that effort, so if you share my belief that we all have a part to play in making Ireland a better place , I need your help.

What Do I Need?

While I know I won't be able to match any of the other candidates' huge campaign funds, I will still need to spend a significant amount of money (mostly my own!) just to stay in the race and get my message out. I want to engage as many people, in as many ways as I can, in conversations about the kind of Ireland we want to live in. This means printing literature and posters, hosting public meetings and other events as well as all of the other facets of a modern election campaign which can be very costly! The campaign is being run by volunteers so every cent you give will go directly to engaging voters and telling my story.

What can you do?

Any small amount you could give would be hugely appreciated but I know times are tight, so if you'd prefer to help out another way, please share this page with all of your friends and family and start talking to them about the upcoming election, and the kind of people they want to represent them. Beyond that, I'd love to have you as part of my campaign team, there's always loads to be done, so if you're interested in getting involved, just drop me an email at [email redacted] and you can help out in a way that suits you best.

Thank you in advance for your support, big or small.

Le gach dea-ghuí
