It's in no way easy for me to talk about this and I have tried my best to supress everything that has gone on because personally I find it easier to deal with everything in this way. It's hard to dig deep and excavate years of built up emotion but if life has told me anything, it would be that sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.
My mum is a pinnacle of strength in my life, and with my dad I owe all I have achieved upto to now to them. I have been blessed to always have their words of encouragement and love, which has enveloped me from my younger years to landing a place at medical school. This is the reason why I have felt led to start this campaign in order to better their current sitiuation and to provide my mum with the things she requires that I currently cannot provide.
A few years ago my Mum hurt her back and it's had disastrous effects on her health and wellbeing. Overtime her symptoms have persisted and she's not improved as would be expected. She finds it extremely difficult walking unaided and has been forced to use a wheelchair or drag her feet along for short distances whilst using a walking stick. She has had many falls, extreme back weakness and often complains of numbness and tingling sensations in her limbs. Her back and shoulders are extremely painful and she has been forced to take strong pain medication. She is very imbalanced on her feet and finds sitting in the same position for long or even short periods of time very uncomfortable.
This illness has had a holistic impact on her health and us a family. We have no idea what is the best course of action and have been unsuccessful in finding the cause of it. So it seems that going private is our only option. She loved her job and wishes she could go back to it but unfortunately had to stop because she wasn't able to manage it anymore. It hurts me to know that we live in a world where a talented and caring nurse ends up struggling to receive the help and care she deserves from the very system she worked for tirelessly for years.
My mum is a fighter and has never stopped believing that everything will be okay so I pray that this camapaign allows that to come to fruition. Any amount donated is greatly appreciated.
