Hi,
I am asking for your help towards the purchase and installation of an automatic door opener for the back door in my apartment building. Unfortunately my muscular dystrophy makes it increasingly difficult for me to open and maneuver in my wheelchair through the back door of my apartment building. It's especially difficult when I have items to carry such a groceries, my trombone or just a bag of garbage. This video illustrates the problem I face.
The condo association has given me permission to have an automatic door opener installed but requires I use thier approved electrician and will not contribute towards the installation. I gathered estimates and the purchase and installation will cost about $2800. Luckily the unit is easily removable so I can take it with me if and when I move.
Some anonymous donors have provided $1270 and I am so very grateful for their help. My recent hospitalization has left my bank account depleted and I just don't have the additional funds I need to complete the installation.
Any funds in excess to what I am asking will be put towards hand controls for my car. I also hope to provide a small free jazz concert somewhere in Branford as a way of saying thank you once the door opener is installed.
