Delaware County 4-H is a unique program located in Newtown Square. The mission of our program is to empower our youth to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults. We strive to increase a child’s knowledge in a variety of project areas while teaching life skills, decision making, public speaking and leadership.
Our “one of a kind” program is the only 4-H Educational Farm located in Pennsylvania. We open the doors of agricultural exposure to the children and adults of the Delaware County community and Greater Philadelphia region. Delaware County 4-H teaches the youth with “hands on” learning on where their food comes from. We have several species of livestock, equine and poultry, and are creating sustainable meat, egg and fiber production for our community.
We desperately need financial support from community members to continue our program. We are powered by volunteers, donations and dreams. Our Club Programs are in financial decline from previous year’s struggles. We would like to purchase new run-in sheds to place in the pastures to protect our sheep, alpacas, calves and cows from weather elements. Another significant need is adjustable panels. Theses would be used to form proper lambing jugs, quarantine pens, and sorting and holding pens. Along with panels, a new sheep restraining stand would benefit the program greatly. This would be used to teach children how to properly shear sheep, trim hooves, worm and give injections. We also are in desperate need for new fencing for our pastures. These items along with financial support for feed and medication would be greatly appreciated. 4-H families have to pay out of pocket most medications or veterinary treatments over fifty dollars. This makes it very difficult for the under privileged community that we serve.
