Courtney's Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hi Family and Friends,

Courtney was hospitalized mid September due to decreasing heart function, a result of her genetic heart defect. Since she was hospitalized she's been in the cardiac unit with several trips to the cardiac ICU.  Fortunately she's with some of the best cardiologists in the country at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  She's endured a full battery of tests, a stroke, a full stroke recovery, multi-organ failure, drug-induced coma, dialysis, heavy sedation, and more tubes placed in her than I can count.  Her heart is currently being assisted by mechanical devices and will continue as such until a donor heart becomes available.

Still through all of this, she's the same selfless, joy-filled, loving Courtney we know.  And even though she's gone through a lot, she's still got a long road ahead of her.  We found out that Courtney was approved and is now on the transplant list for a new heart. The expectation here is pretty varied, it will likely be 12-24 months average before a donor heart becomes available.  After that, she'll have a long process of therapy and a lifelong drug regiment to fight organ rejection.  As you can imagine, their medical bills are adding up.  And that's where you come in!

Many of you have been great about sending gift cards and buying things for the Ewert family.  And, we understand everyone has financial pressures today and that we all have very busy lives. Any help or even a virtual hug would be welcomed.

As shown in the picture above, Courtney is a mother of two loveable babies, Easton and Tenley. Easton is 2-1/2 years old and Tenley is 10 months old. They are also the reason for setting up this fund, to help chip in with care for Courtney's babies.

We'd like to get a jump start on this campaign to help ease the immediate need, then continue to build it long term as she goes through recovery.  Please donate in any way you can and feel free to share this with friends and family.

Thank you so much for blessing our family.  We are all grateful for your support, prayers, and encouragement.  We love you all very much.

A story from Quinn (Courtney's husband):

"I want to tell you a quick story about Courtney. I have known her for 15 years and learned more about who she is in the past three weeks than all 15 years combined. We have all been weak, scared and uncertain. Courtney has been strong, confident and our rock. Quite the humbling experience to rely on the person that is going through it to be your source of strength while you should be theirs. Just before going into surgery last night, her organs shutting down, her heart barely function, Courtney told us to not cry – she knew nothing other than fighting. She prayed over herself and I knew this woman was and is not going to be stopped. After surgery, her surgeon said, "That is one heck of fighter, she's an ox." Probably the first and only time in her life shes been compared to an Ox."
