Eagle Scout Project-Flagpole

Donation protected
My name is Clay Patrick Curl. I am a Boy Scout. I am 17 and in the final stages of achieving my Eagle Scout rank. This fund is to raise money for my Eagle Scout Project, which is a new flagpole with a ceremonial deck and associated flags installed at Visitation Catholic STEM Academy in Tacoma, WA so that  the school can fly Old Glory properly and within accepted traditional standards.

The Ceremonial deck will be dedicated to the local military community served by the school. It is in the middle of several U.S. Military bases, the largest of which is Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM), an Army/Air force base. I intend to embed 5 military emblems into the ceremonial deck, representing each of the 5 main military forces; Army, Navy, Air force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. There will be a dedication plaque stating our gratitude for the freedoms protected by those currently serving as well as veterans of the past. (See a proof of that plaque toward the end of this document.)

There will be a dedication ceremony to inaugurate this flagpole and the flag flown upon it upon completion. JBLM will be sending several active duty personnel to perform the first flag raising. I think it is fitting to have the flagpole's first use by active duty military personnel. The flags and the pole will be blessed by Father Nicholas Wichert. The school will then have the ability to conduct flag ceremonies on a ceremonial deck. Hopefully, this will assist in instilling some patriotism as well as some awareness of what it takes to remain free.

The Boy Scouts of America has its roots in military tradition and training. Service is at its heart. Education and preparation are the tools we use to be prepared to serve, so I cannot see a more fitting project for an Eagle Scout than to serve a school in a spirit of gratitude for our military veterans.

My father was a U.S. Marine and is a decorated combat veteran. I was raised in a home that respects tradition, discipline, patriotism and faith. Not necessarily in that order. I feel this project represents the Scouts, the community and me. I am proud to put my name on it for as long as this pole will stand.

Please consider assisting me in raising this funds needed to make this project happen. The local community is responding well. I still need to purchase the flagpole itself and the associated bronze plaques which will create the ceremonial deck. It is for these supplies that this fund is designated.

I appreciate all donations in any amount.
