Training and Expenses for Chloe

Donation protected
Jim Reuther, City of Jamestown Fire Chief, has received a pure-bred bloodhound puppy (Chloe) as a donation from a breeder who heard that Chief Reuther planned on training Chloe as a search and rescue dog in the Jamestown area.    Chief Reuther is taking on this project as a VOLUNTEER - the City of Jamestown/Fire Department are not paying for any of Chloe's training or care.

Chief Reuther decided to own and train a search and rescue dog after seeing what a blood hound, with proper training, can do at a search and rescue site.   In December 2011, Chief Reuther watched a blood hound search along holes drilled in the ice to help locate the body of a Jamestown resident who had been last seen ice fishing at the Jamestown Reservoir.  When the blood hound named Barnaby indicated upon a scent at one of the holes, the rescue team used a remote operated vehicle with a camera attached  to locate the body and end the agony of the local family.

Proper training of a blood hound is essential.  Chief Reuther has identified training academies in Canon City, CO and Verona, WI as sources for this training. Instructors at these academies have many years experience in training dogs.  The Academies offer courses that run from one to two weeks, depending on the specific training offered.

Once trained, Chloe will be used not only in the immediate Jamestown area, but upon request from other fire and police agencies - free of charge - when it is needed.   Heaven forbid, but it could be any one of us - or our families - who need this kind of help someday!

I learned about Chloe at a recent Jamestown Community Foundation meeting.  The Foundation awarded a $2500 grant toward Chloe's training.  Many thanks to fellow board member, Joan Morris, for sharing Chloe and Chief Reuther's story with us and making us aware of this worthy project!

Funds raised by this Go Fund Me site will go first toward the balance of course tuition, travel and lodging for Chief Reuther and Chloe, then additional funds raised will go to assist Chief Reuther with Chloe's care and veterinary bills.

Thank you for your support of Chloe and Chief Reuther!
