Hey Everyone,
I’m excited to share that I’ll be traveling to Uganda at the end of this month from September 29th, to October 12th.
I’m going with Guiding Light Orphans, an organization dedicated to immediate and sustainable change in rural Uganda.
They’ve asked me to come and work on a few short documentaries, where we can highlight the progress they’ve made so far thanks to the donations of generous sponsors,
By bringing back powerful visual stories in the form of pictures and short videos, we hope to generate even more support for everything they’re doing.
I’m going to link below to the Guiding Light orphans website, they have a great video showing some of their accomplishments and what they’ve done in the past including bi-annual medical camps - where they see up to 4000 patients and provide basic care, immunizations, family planning, and HIV testing. They also provide health education to bring prevention and awareness.
In the rural Masindi district of Uganda, there’s a huge distance between where people live and where they can receive treatment. Theres a high level of contagious diseases - which become even more dangerous given the issues of illiteracy, and many people are not very well educated to even comprehend the risks of disease.
By training community healthcare workers, they’re able to educate the community and link them to the health units where they can receive the treatment they need. These workers also can give immunizations, while teaching sanitation and hygiene.
I’ve started a go-fund-me campaign to help offset some of my costs associated with this trip. I’ve already spend $2400 on travel, food, and accommodation for the 10 days I’ll be there. I’m also missing two weeks of work while I travel, along with 2-3 weeks of time I’ll spend in post production putting everything together once I’m home. I’m buying and renting video equipment for the trip, along with a laptop to back everything up while I’m in the field.
If you’ve spent any time with me in last few ears, you’ve probably heard me say I want to change the world. And while I don’t know how, I know this is a great place to start, and this is where it will start for me.
I would never ask for everything to be covered, but I’m hoping to raise $5000 to cover some of my costs. Anything helps, I truly appreciate your support. Thanks for watching this video, and I’ll keep you all updated as I know more.
