          Connecting Central Oregon's Water, Land
                                    and Environment

YOUR LAND.

YOUR LIVELIHOOD.
YOUR WATER.
YOUR VOICE.

More than 100 years ago the first shovels began to carve out what would eventually become a 1,200+ mile long canal system. It was all to support what could be called the region’s first start-ups: the ranches and family farms built by settlers seeking to tame one of the West’s last frontiers.

Today, Central Oregon is well-known for many other industries, from microbreweries to golf resorts to tech startups and data centers. However, those original settlers would easily recognize the region thanks to the large role agriculture still plays in our community.

But it might not be that way forever. Climate change, drought, a greatly increased demand for water and a growing legal and moral responsibility to manage wildlife habitats in a sustainable way all have the ability to vastly affect the economic viability of the local agricultural industry.

As representatives of the eight irrigation districts that serve Central Oregon’s many ranches and farms, we want to create an educational campaign promoting the importance of agriculture to our region, both economically and culturally. To our patrons, it’s more than just a job; it’s a way of life, one passed down through generations. As some of the oldest organizations in the region, we at the irrigation districts feel that same responsibility to protect the region’s agricultural legacy.

Your donation will go towards funding educational materials, support for agricultural events, information stands at community events, public outreach campaigns and other materials to help illustrate the importance of agriculture to our livelihoods, the fabric of our communities and our way of life.

Agriculture is one of the leading economic drivers of our local economy, responsible for the direct and indirect livelihoods of tens of thousands of people throughout Central Oregon. It’s what lets farmers, ranchers, and direct suppliers create jobs in the community and pay taxes. But it also supports the countless retailers, service providers, firefighters, police officers, doctors, teachers and business owners in Madras, Redmond, Bend, Sisters, Tumalo, Prineville, and Terrebonne where workers spend their wages, buy their homes, pay their taxes, raise their children and support our communities. In short, what’s good for agriculture is good for Central Oregon.

While it’s been around since the settling of the region, our way of life has never been more under fire. It could only take one judge, one politician, one regulation, one special interest group or one lawsuit to put Central Oregon’s agricultural industry on the defensive. We don’t want to see what happened to the timber industry happen to the agricultural industry here.

Thank you for your support. Please share our Go Fund Me page on Facebook or via email to your friends and neighbors in the community so we can raise the money we need to raise awareness!
