Tom is blind and has been a CRIS listener for 35 years. He says, “The biggest difference CRIS has made in my life is that it prevents me from being isolated, enhances my knowledge and independence and empowers me. By keeping me informed on local to national events, I am able to converse with people on a wide range of topics and opens up the world to me.”
The Connecticut Radio Information System (CRIS) is Connecticut's only reading service providing audio versions featuring human narration of print materials to people who are blind or printed-challenged due to any disability that makes it difficult or impossible for them to read print materials.
Imagine you can’t read. How would you stay informed about events in your community and beyond?
Relatives of listener Mike said, “Uncle Mike was a daily listener of CRIS Radio for 25 years. CRIS Radio allowed Uncle Mike to be an active and knowledgeable participant in any conversation and helped him lead a long full life where he felt that he was important and that his opinions mattered.”
The readings offered on CRIS are comprehensive and varied. For adults, they include news and sports stories, editorials, obituaries, business and personal finance articles, lifestyle stories, recipes, travel, accessible technology developments, restaurant reviews, store sale circulars, community events, best selling books, health and safety several talk shows focusing on issues and topics of particular interest to the CRIS audience.
CRIS is facing cutbacks in funding from the state, which may require us to reduce our programming.
Please help us continue to provide programming for people who rely on us for information vital to their quality of life.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 by June 30th.
