Bright Screens, Bright Minds

Tax deductible

Our Mission

Our goal with the Bright Screen, Bright Minds scholarship is to distribute laptops and other educational eletronics to students who fall under 150% of the poverty level in grades eight through twelve. We aim to collect funds from the local community to grant at least one laptop per academic quarter,  about four a year.

What do we want to accomplish?

We want to give all of our peers equal footing academically. In today’s world personal computers and other eletroinics are tools that are crucial to be a successful student.  Without a computer, students would be at the same disadvantage as if they lacked a pencil or a note book. Many students rely on school resources for computer access, which are inconsistent. This scholarship will hopefully allow our fellow students to have all the resources they need to be on equal academic footing.

How are we going to do it?

We are currently part of  The Community Foundation of Collier County's general fund and intend to use the contribution of sponsors from our local community to fund the computers for scholarships. We also hope to work with Google as well as Apple to bring down the price of each computer. The plan is to award first place applicants a brand new MacBook, but not leave the other students empty handed. We hope to gain recurring yearly sponsors to perpetuate this scholarship.

How does it work?

The applicants will be recommended by their guidance counselors and will have access to the scholarship on The Community Foundation website. They will need to submit tax forms, proof of academic merit, as well as their application.

What do donors get from donating?

They get the satisfaction of knowing that they helped improve the education of a young student in their local area, as well as a tax exemption for their donation as we are part of the Community Foundation.

Timeline

We aim to award one computer per academic quarter from March 2017 onward. By the end of this year we intend to have donated four laptops and have $10,000 of liquid assets for our cause in the general fund at The Community Foundation.
