Memorial Fundraiser for Boots

Donation protected

My name was Bulent Hakki. My friends called me Boots.
I want to say something to you all but I can’t - I have no voice - because
I died in late November last year.

My death was reported as “apparently natural' and my family and friends were lead to believe I died with a smile on my face, peacefully in my sleep, which gave people some comfort.

The sad truth is I died in my bed wrapped tightly in my duvet, a pillow covering my face and stuck to my mouth - and my loved ones are now suspicious of the circumstances surrounding my death.

My sister received a police report on 15 March 2019, 4 months after I was buried which added to her suspicions. Vital questions need answering.

We need to fight for truth, for justice and lawyers don’t come cheap.
All donations are gratefully appreciated.

Please join with my friends and family and demand #JusticeForBoots

Friends and family attended the inquest on Thurs 25 April at St Pancras Coroner’s Court and the verdict was an Open Verdict was recorded.

More updates as and when.

Update 8th June:

Hello everyone
Firstly, sincere apologies for the silence this end as we’ve tried to process and make decisions about how to proceed.

The inquest provided no real answers and many of the circumstances that initially struck us as suspicious were shown to be ambiguous at best. The family have therefore decided not to proceed with any further investigations, saying "its going to be a very hard case to prove and will cost absolute fortunes and years of legal battles so we have decided to let Bulent rest in peace.”

This means there will be no further legal fees and none have been incurred to date.

With regard to the money raised for legal fees here and at The Weavers pub where Boots used to drink, it’s suggested that we pass it onto the family who are commissioning a memorial bench to be placed at the cemetery, by his grave so his friends and family can go and sit for a while if they want to, (or in Stoke Newington Green / Clissold park tbc).

Any left over could be donated to a charity close to Boots’ heart; a dog rescue charity springs to mind as he was involved in dog rescue in Egypt in his last few years.

The total raised so far was £960. People were incredibly generous and a massive thank you for that, it meant so much.

We realise this is a change of plan so if instead you'd prefer a refund then please let us know by leaving a message on here or on the Facebook memorial page and we'll liaise with GoFundMe to do that for you. Please let us know by the end of the month (June) when we’ll otherwise be passing the money to the family.

We've updating this page to reflect these changes and at the request of the family turning the Facebook page into a memorial page - so please do add any stories, photo's or memories.

Thanks for all your investment in this, emotional and financial, it has meant to so much for us all to come together over the loss of a dear friend and brother. RIP Boots.

Much love to all from Sue, Ros and Ezra. ❤️❣️❤️
