Baseball Gear for Dominican Kids!

Donation protected
For about four years now our family has had the opportunity to host baseball players from the Orem Owlz professional baseball team in our home. Hosting these players entails providing transportation, feeding them, housing them, and attending as many of their baseball games as we possibly can!

Over the course of these four years, we have had the opportunity to develop close relationships with many of these baseball players and learn a little more about who they are and where they come from. Many of the players who have stayed with us are from the Dominican Republic. They have shared with us stories of the widespread poverty in their country. They have told us that most people in the Dominican Republic have very little money to cover even basic essentials like food and water and certainly can’t afford to provide their children with baseball equipment. The game of baseball is incredibly popular in the Dominican Republic and for a lucky few it provides a way for them to come to the United States and earn enough money to provide a better quality of life for their family back home.

For the last two years, we have accepted donated baseball equipment and traveled to the Dominican Republic to distribute these items to underprivileged children. Together, with multiple professional players from the Angels minor league system, we traveled around the country, visiting several different little league fields and meeting with many little league players. The professional baseball players would give baseball lessons to the little league players. They would tell the children what it took to be a good baseball player; emphasizing the importance of hard work, listening to your coaches and teachers, and most important of all, the value of receiving a good education. Afterwards we would hand out baseballs, bats, jersey, and even real leather mitts! Seeing the joy on the faces of these children when they received these gifts was an incredibly rewarding experience.

It is our hope that we can return to the Dominican Republic this year in order to continue our outreach to these children and continue to use baseball as a way to teach them the value of hard work and education. The money you donate will help cover the cost of the flight and the baggage fees for the donated baseball equipment, and some other travel related expenses. We will once again be staying with some of the players who we hosted in our home.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us to bring some joy into the lives of children who have so little. Any donation that you would like to make will be helpful in making this our most successful trip yet and you can take comfort in knowing how happy you will be making these children. Thank you!
