Baker Capstone Building Fund
This campaign is designed to generate needed funds to build, renovate, and modify structures on campus to help best support our students. Phase I of this campaign will be dedicated to updating the athletic facilities on campus. A proposed 8,000 square foot Athletic Complex will be contructed. This complex will include the following: weight training facility, fully equipped athletic training room and physical therapy center, and locker room to include coaches office and equipment storage.
Note that gifts can be made divided into monthly payments for your convenience. The option to make recurring payments is available when setting up your donation. Select "Donate a Different Amount" and enter your monthly recurring payment. Under the box where you enter your name, select "Give this amount monthly?". We will determine your reward level based on the amount received. Email Paul Agnew for additional information on recurring payments.
This campaign will also help develop an official Baker High School Alumni Association. This association will give Baker Alumni the opportunity to remain involved in the school community, helping to continue to meet the needs of the students and faculty at Baker High School. Your donation to the Capstone Building Fund Campaign will serve as your dues for 2015.
Doug, thank you for your questions. Certainly, taxes paid by Mobile County citizens are intended to help fund infrastructure improvements at Mobile County Public Schools. However, the Mobile County Public School System includes over 90 schools, all with local needs and concerns. In addition, the funds generated from taxes must pay for much more than just infrastructure improvements--teacher salaries, instructional needs, transportation costs, just to name a few. Further, in Mobile County, property taxes have not been raised in quite a while. The recent property tax referendums have asked for a renewal of current mills, not an increase. The intent of this Capstone Building Fund is to provide supporters, alumni, parents, community stakeholders, and local businesses a platform for sending tax-deductible donations directly to Baker High School. The property taxes paid for by Mobile County residents fund an entire system. Any donations made to this fund will directly benefit Baker High School. These funds give the administration and faculty at Baker the autonomy to make needed improvements to our campus. Further, the funds generated from this campaign will demonstrate to central office officials the pride that this community has in Baker High School. As a result, we hope to see those with decision making authority recognize the importance of allocating funds that will truly help transform our campus and meet the needs of our ever-growing student population.
Is this not what we pay taxes to fund? And aren't the issues raised here the same ones the school system uses every few years to raise property taxes?
