After watching Bite Size Vegan's video on youtube about the Brown Paper Bag Movement in New York, we decided something needed to be done in Columbus too.
We talked about it for about a week after we saw the video, but we hadn't yet done anything about it. It was when the four of us (Erin 16, Talor 17, Lauren 17, & Ellie 16) saw a homeless man at an intersection holding a sign saying "Homeless, Hungry, Will take anything" that we made the commitment to help.
We are four young people looking to make a difference in Columbus OH. We have been running on our own money for the first couple of weeks, but cannot provide everything these people need without your help.
Our goal is to provide healthy vegan food as well as toiletries, water, socks, gloves, and other articles of clothing. These things will be sorted into paper bags for women, men, and children; as each require different toiletries and clothing. Each saturday, we wil be out passing these bags out and any extras delivered to shelters.
It takes roughly 100-200 dollars weekly to be consistent (not including clothing). Funds are needed urgently as winter is approaching and we need to be able to provide warm clothing.
Volunteers in the Columbus OH area are also very much appriciated. Our Instagram page is @brownpaperbag614, DM us with any questions you may have. Thank you so much.
Remember: don't just say, "someone should do something about that". Be the person who does something.
