BM Fellowship Program
The Black Millennial Fellowship is a 6-week program designed for Black activists who use or are interested in using arts, culture, and independent media to advance racial justice.
Given capacity, we are only accepting 5-7 BM Fellows.
The inaugural class is scheduled to launch Summer 2016. We're securing funds now to ensure successful programmatic development and execution.
Phase One: Fundraising (May 2015 - Sept 2015)
Phase Two: Curriculum Development (Oct 2015 - Dec 2015)
Phase Three: Application Process (Jan 2016 - May 2016)
Phase Four: BM Fellowship Launch! (June 2016)
BM Fellows will go through a comprehensive curriculum designed to connect cultural traditions in racial justice organizing.
-Cultural Empowerment and the Black Tradition
-Media Rights, Advocacy, and Activism
-Cultural Communication for Social Justice
This rigorous program aims to:
-Familiarize participants with core cultural principles such as storytelling, blogging, literature, film, cinema, and other artistic expressions
-Analyze social justice movements through an artistic and cultural lens
-Teach participants how to write, edit, and publish racial justice articles in a manner appropriate for the growing social justice blogosphere
-Promote the understanding of media rights in activism and public advocacy
-Familiarize participants with contemporary digital communication platforms such as Google+, Skype, Wordpress, YouTube, and other social media networks
-Introduce functional concepts of social entrepreneurship
-Strengthen financial literacy
-Build relationships for continued programmatic growth
After successful completion of the program, BM Fellows will be awarded a $100 honorarium. BM Fellows are also given travel subsidies to minimize the cost of train and bus fare during the program.
Funds go to honorariums for participants after successful completion of the program, curriculum development, trainfare, operational costs, printed materials, and other fees.
