In November 2010 when Ava was twenty months, Ava was diagnosed with inoperable brain tumour and hydrocephalus, this diagnosis has had an impact on all areas of her development, she has limited mobility and is nonverbal. Ava can communicate her wants and needs through Pecs *(Picture exchange communication system)
With the ongoing help and therapy from Temple Street hospital, Brainwaves, Ceis , her schools and family and friends , Ava is full of determination and continues to surprise us every day. Ava is a happy, placid and extremely loveable child who loves horse riding and swimming and spends her days doing jigsaws and playing games on her iPad. Ava is now six years old, she attends St Claire’s school in Ennis and loves it. Ava is constantly smiling and never complains Ava lives in Shannon with her Mum (Martina), Dad (Tommy) and little sister Chloe.
The aim of the fundraiser is that Ava will be able to receive additional supports in forms of therapy and the equipment that will enhance Ava’s day to day life. We also hope to send Ava to Brain Waves in England, this is a clinic that works with families on individual based therapy and exercise programmes.
