About a month ago, Arman and Naira Pepanyan received tragic news that no parents could ever be prepared to hear. Their blossoming five year old little boy, Artyom, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). ALL is a cancer that starts from the early version of white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow. The term “acute” means that the leukemia can progress quickly, and if not treated, could be fatal within a few months.
Since being diagnosed, Artyom has spent an entire month lying in a hospital bed at a cancer treatment facility in Yerevan, Armenia - missing out on much of the activities that normal, healthy children can participate in. The one thing he hasn’t missed out on, however, is the warm presence and love shed upon him by his parents, and although love is powerful, it can’t cure Artyom’s disease.
Arman and Naira Pepanyan have reached out to the people of their small community in Yerevan, Armenia to encourage blood donation. It is the only thing their community can offer them, seeing that the small city is poverty-striken. As Artyom’s condition grows more severe, the doctors looking after him have proposed a last ditch effort that could rid Artyom of the ugly disease that plagues him. His last chance at surviving and experiencing the life of which he has seen so little lies in an operation that can be performed by the talented doctors in Berlin, Germany. Although this is great news, Artyom’s parents have never felt more hopeless, because in exchange for the life of their son, they are asked for the one thing they don’t have, which are the finances.
Arman and Naira Pepanyan do not have the financial means necessary to afford the approximately $50,000 worth of travel and medical expenses necessary to save Artyom.
They have been given a lifeline, but are unable to reach it. In a desperate attempt to save their son Artyom Pepanyan, we are reaching out to the GoFund me community to help reach that lifeline. This is our last chance to take action before it’s too late.
I know that he can be saved. I also know that Artyom is a little warrior, but he needs the help of an army. All donations, no matter how small are welcome. If you are like us and cannot afford to donate, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. And most importantly, if you are able to share Artyom’s story with someone you know, we will be very grateful. A world without Artyom’s laughter would be an empty one indeed.
