The Help ALISTER Medical Fund
Spende geschützt
Hey everyone..
I have a Frenchie named ALISTER CLARK NEASI. He was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 26th 2009 and today he will turn 6 years old! I have had my lil one since he was 7 1/2 weeks old.

I take such good care of him that a couple of doctors said that he is one of the best kept Frenchies they have seen! He is smart: when he was about 1 year we introduced him to ice. He loved to lick the ice down to water in the summer. He would bat it all around our kitchen trying to lick it down to nothing. One day he discovered that if he could trap in a corner under the cabinets it would not move and he could drink it in at his leisure! He is particular: When the fedex or UPS guys arrive he waits at the door - he can smell which one carries the treats. If it is the guy with the dog treats he will run to greet him, if its the guy without - he will return to his bed!
He is healthy: I introduced him to organic foods early on and he loves them. He is healthy: he goes for walks 5 to 7 times a day and loves to play with his toys. He is a sound sleeper: and by sound i mean he sleeps but his snoring can mimic the best of what Makita chain saws and power tools can offer! He has a healthy (?) interest in music : I add the question mark because we have a conflicting interest in music - he loves christmas music and dare i say it? is a huge fan of Barbara Streisand, while i lean toward vintage punk. I would say until two weeks ago, Alister was a healthy guy - he was perfect!

On January 13th, Alister woke me up at 3AM, panting like crazy. He didn’t look good - he was panting and every time he tried to get up from his bed he was unable to. He lost control of his bodily functions. Each time he would have an accident he tried to move and couldn’t, so I would grab him and move him myself. I could see that he was unable to put any pressure on his back legs so i would move him. As soon as the Vet opened we called the doctor and were told to bring him in right away. After looking at his condition the Doctor said there was nothing he could do, and we needed to rush him over to the VCA Hospital on Sepulveda. Once we got Alister there, they took him from my arms and the Surgeon came in, and told us that they put him on some pain meds to make him comfortable. The Doctor said it could be one of two things - fluid on the brain (really bad) or something requiring surgery (still bad) but at least a better (80%) chance for recovery. Since we had been up all night, they suggested we go home. They planned to do an MRI at 3pm and told us they would call afterward.
At 3pm, they called. He was in critical condition! His L6 vertabrae was 50% impaired and he needed emergency surgery - immediately. I lost it! I suddenly realized, I could lose HIM! They called 3.5 hours later to report the surgery went well, but, as with most Frenchies, he was having some breathing complications and needed oxygen. He also had some issues with regurgitating the medications and they were worried he might have fluid on his lungs. The next morning they put him on antibiotics and took some X-rays of his lungs. Although his lungs were clear, they kept up the oxygen and the meds as a precaution.
The next day was encouraging. They got him up, he walked a bit, and he ate. They were still concerned about his control of his bodily functions. He seemed to know that he needed to go which was good news, but he still was having issues.
It turns out they kept him on oxygen until he was finally released on Saturday, Jan. 17th. So after 5 days in the hospital, a total of 9 medications, a prescription for 4 to 6 months of rehab and physical therapy, and in anticipation of several more visits to the hospital - we had racked up a bill totalling more than $15,000!
Here is the deal - I was totally unprepared for this financially. The bill had to be paid right then and there. How was I going to get Alister, my sweet baby out of there and home where he belongs? Alister is my boy and my responsability. As many of you may know, I have family that have helped, but If they hadn’t, he would still be in the hospital unable too come home until I paid the bill. A bill which would continue to increase each and every day he was not released. Luckily I was able to borrow the money on a relatives credit card, in order to bring him home.

I will hopefully be able to manage the ongoing expenses, but my concern at the moment is getting out from under the $15,000 surgical expense without incurring more debt because of finance charges.
Now this is the hard part - paying it off! Yes I am working, but I am a freelancer. Which means i work from job to job, and while i have worked steadily, the entertainment industry is difficult for a freelancer and independant like myself.
So, I am asking for help. I have never reached out in such a public way before. But I am doing this for Alister, to give him the best ongoing care possible and insure his well being and a healthy future. If you can find it in your heart to donate even a small amount, we will be forever grateful! I really believe that every little bit will help!
Alister is getting better and stronger each day, and I am confident that he will make a total and complete recovery!
Alister and I want to thank you for your help.
