Friends and Family of Alex West are raising funds to enable Alex's life saving operation in Sydney and his intensive ongoing care.
20 year old Alex was diagnosed with a juvenile Pilocystic Astrocytoma ( Brain tumour) at 6 years of age. Alex then had 2 operations, chemotherapy and radiation to stabilise the tumour.
In early 2014 while studying at university, Alex relapsed. Since then Alex has had 2 further operations in Melbourne, many hospital admissions and is currently having weekly chemotherapy, however his condition continues to deteriorate. He is now confined to his bed, unable to talk, see properly or feed himself.
His family received the devastating news from his medical team that all treatment options had been exhausted.
Refusing to give up in the fight to save Alex's life, his parents contacted Dr Charlie Teo, a renowned Sydney neurosurgeon, who agreed to operate on Alex and try to remove the tumour.
These funds are critical in assisting the family with what they believe could be their only remaining hope for Alex.
This will also assist with ongoing specialised care and essential renovations to allow for wheel chair access and lifting aids.
This 14 year journey for Alex and his family, and in particular the last 18 months, has been one of continual adversity, perseverance, personal strength, and everlasting hope..... This relapse and the recent prognosis, has had a life shattering impact on all the family.
