Afton Historical Museum

Mission:
Keep the Afton Historical Museum doors open!
The Afton Historical Society needs to raise $28,000 annually for operational expenses to keep the doors of the Afton Historical Museum open. 

Non-Profit Status:
The Afton Historical Society is a registered 501(c)(3)
charitable non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Challenge:
The Afton Historical Museum does not receive any operational cost funding from the state, county or local government. For the past few years the Afton Museum has been very fortunate to receive several Minnesota Legacy Grants administrated by the Minnesota Historical Society to fund preservation projects. While the grant funds provide the means to preserve and store artifacts, none of this money can be used for operating expenses. 

Impact:
Each year the Board of Directors and many volunteers engage in fundraising efforts to raise money for annual operational costs. Events raise awareness and promote membership at the Afton Museum. Local fundraising events that support the museum have included historical perspective exhibits and presentations at the museum, as well as auctions and sales during community events in historic downtown Afton,
During the annual 4th of July celebration in Afton, the museum lends support by selecting a Grand Marshall and providing a volunteer base for logistics.

Unfortunately, the annual operational costs consistently exceed the amount of fundraising dollars the museum raises each year. The deficit of these critical funds challenges the museum to explore additional avenues of funding, thus the outreach through crowdfunding. The Afton Museum relies completely on public and private donations to cover operational costs. The goal is to keep the doors open so that everyone can continue to experience these historic treasures of cultural enrichment, historic preservation and education.
