Dear Friends,

I am Divisha, 8th grader at Stratford School in Fremont along with my sister Navya, Pre K at Stratford and we seek your help to support the families of Paradise.

As you are all aware, Paradise was struck by a devastating fire which has destroyed the entire town. Several families have lost their homes, their livelihood and their dear ones. This is a time of extreme distress for them and we need to do something to help them. I am grateful for the Stratford family which has always stood up on such occasions to help people in need and I am sure this time will be no different.

Over the last few days I have been researching on how we can do something which will directly help the families who have lost everything in this tragedy. I came across this community called Adopt a Family which allows you to directly support a family. I connected with them and came across the moving story of Nicole Hauser. She shared her entire story with me and I will pass that to you so you can directly feel the pain she and her family have suffered.

My name is Nicole and I’m a momma of four boys : Kaleb 14, Kadyn 11, Loyalty 3 and Bentley 13 months....The day after Bentley turned one the most devastating thing happened to my family, our whole town, my families car, our house and everything we worked so hard for burned to ash. With only minutes to spare my son Kadyn put the needs of his baby brothers before his. I was frantic, he tried calming me as he packed as much stuff of his baby brothers in one duffel bag. Propane tanks exploding, transformers exploding and people screaming from afar. It was a nightmare. As we left our house the flames were right there. Just when I thought we had escaped the fire, my car broke down. Kadyn grabbed Loyalty covered him with a blanket as I did with Bentley and we ran as fast as we could. There were flames and embers falling and I just thought we weren’t going to make it out alive. Kadyn is my hero. Without him I don’t think we would have made it out. Once we were reunited with the boys’ dad we drove through flames, people were running with their kids, car were on fire. It was like Armageddon. While I’m so grateful we are alive, we can’t help but to mourn the loss of life as we once knew it. John is a carpenter working for a framing company that burned down along with everything else. Most of his tools were destroyed, now with little or no work on most days. I work with the developmentally disabled adults for a company that supports them with living in their own home. We provide 24 hour care. All of my clients but one also lost their homes. So my job has relocated many miles away from where we are currently staying. I’m traveling 90 minutes to and from work, gas is an issue. Im pleading for your help for my family start to rebuild our belongings and to assist with some of our immediate needs. We are blessed to be staying with family, for now. It’s only temporary. Our hope is to find permanent housing in the near future. We are grateful for any and all help. This is very foreign for us to ask for help. Unfortunately, our reality is we need to ask for help right now. Our family hopes you have a safe and happy Christmas.

Through this fundraiser, we will be able to support a Wish List Nicole has created which comprises of basic needs during this time as well as some support for the Holidays. I request all past and present students, families and staff of Stratford to help us raise money to help Nicole and her family.
