Hello,
Our names are Ryan and Erin Campbell. We are seniors and juniors at Camden Catholic High School. This past summer we had the oppurtunity to travel to Haiti with five of our cousins, and our aunt to volunteer at a summer enrichment camp run by Alliance for Haiti's Children. http://www.allhaitikids.org. Alliance for Haiti’s Children teams with rural communities in the mountains outside of Port-au-Prince to support students, teachers, and schools. Each summer the organization runs a 2 week camp for the children in the region's poorest schools. This summer from July 23rd- July 30th we are fourtunate enought to return to La Valle to help run the second week of camp.
Last year with generous contributions from friends, family, & the local community we were able to carry over 20 bags of school supplies. The camp is free for the children and all of the money raised goes directly to aid the children. During the week we taught classes in the morning and helped with sports, arts & crafts, & computers in the afternoon. The children we met faced unimaginable poverty and hardship, some walking over 2 hours each day to get to the camp. However, it was amazing to see the amount of joy a simple soccer ball or bubble wand was able to bring the campers.
Each volunteer is asked to raise money to cover the costs of the camp and the supplies for the children; the families of these children could not possibly pay camp fees. We our hoping you can help us toward that goal. Any amount - large or small - will help us provide an enriching camp experience that includes language, arts, computer lab, sports, and a nourishing meal. For many of the children, that meal will be the only one of the day. It will mean so much to them, and to us, if you are able to support this effort. 100% of the funds we recive will go directly to the camp. The Alliance for Haiti’s Children will then send you tax information. We will use the money we raise to purchase supplies for the camp - ranging from soccer balls to flash drives - and bring those items with us when we go in July.
