SUMMARY

Boko Haram has ravaged Northeastern Nigeria for the past six years. Today, over 1.5 million Nigerians live in camps for Internally Displaced People (IDP). Over 50% of the residents of these camps are children, whose futures remain bleak, not only because of the conditions of the camps, but because they are malnourished.

AACE FOODS FEED THE CHILDREN FUND was initiated by AACE Foods Processing & Distribution Limited to provide at least 2,500 displaced children with nutritious food for 3 months.

CHILDREN IN IDP CAMPS

Prior to the Boko Haram insurgency, according to the 2008 DHS Survey, 41% of Nigerian children under 5 were stunted. Pockets of Northern Nigeria had rates closer to 60%. Sadly, anecdotal evidence suggests that in the IDP camps, with many orphans, fighting for survival, the rates of malnutrition are even higher!

Malnutrition is one of the leading causes of child death in Nigeria, and leads to serious life-long consequences for children that survive.

Despite the efforts of the Nigerian government, private and nonprofit organizations, the numbers of children in IDP camps continues to rise and their malnutrition burden persists.

As at April 2015,  1,491,706 people have taken refuge in the IDP camps in Nigeria in the following 6 states such as Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe State.

No child should ever be forced to go to sleep hungry, no child should be malnourished! Indifference is not a solution to this situation.

OUR INTERVENTION

For just $5, you can feed one child for a week.

For $50,000 we can collectively feed 2,500 children for 3 months.

AACE Foods has taken on this challenge and with your support is embarking on a 30-day campaign to raise $50,000 to provide nourishing meals for 2,500 malnourished children between the ages of 2– 5 years for 3 months.

IMPACT OF THE PROJECT ON THE CHILDREN

AACE Foods is offering its Soyamaize at cost and partnering with credible nonprofit organizations focused on health and education to ensure that 2,500 children in the IDP camps benefit from a daily nutritious meal.

This would ensure healthy growth and proper mental development for these children and put broad smiles on their faces.

SUSTAINABILITY

Feeding 2,500 children in the camps feels like a pebble in a large ocean of need. However, our focus is on the children who need it the most, and keeping them alive. We will partner with the State governments and credible nonprofits to develop longer term solutions to the nutrition crises in the camps, which will ensure a sustainable strategy for feeding our children.
