Benjamin Parks - Astrocytoma

Donation protected
I am putting together this campaign for my sister, Nicole Parks, and my nephew Benjamin Parks.

Benjamin turned 2 years old this month.  He is wonderful little boy, smart, curious and stubborn with a bright future ahead of him.

A few months ago, Ben started to have, "tremors", in his sleep.  These tremors progressed to the point that Ben was not sleeping well and became worrisome.  My sister video taped these tremors and Ben was seen by a pediatric neurologist, who felt that a MRI could be done to rule out any concern.

Unfortunately, the MRI revealed that Ben had a 7 mm tumor in his cerebellum.  Ben's doctor's feel this tumor is a Low-Grade Astrocytoma. This means that fortunately, this appears to be a slow - growing tumor. Ben is being cared for by a wonderful team of doctors at Children's Hopsital in Detroit.  The team of experts there have all agreed that it is best to perform surgery to remove the tumor.  The exact pathology of the tumor will not be known until the tumor is removed and examined by a pathologist.

Ben is scheduled to have surgery on April 6th, 2016, at Children's Hospital.  The surgery will consist of removing a piece of skull to allow entrance to the brain and removal of the tumor.  A few screws and a titanium plate will be placed during the repair. Ben will spend the 1st, 24 hours, in the ICU, to closely monitor for any risk of blood clot or stroke, followed by up to a one week hopsital stay.  Thereafter, he will not be able to return to daycare for awhile, and will wear a helmet to protect his head for several weeks.

My sister will be unable to work during Ben's recovery process, making things difficult financially as a single mother.  During a time like this, money should be the last worry for a parent. It would mean so much to keep the focus strictly on Ben's recovery.

Any donations will be strictly used to cover costs of living during the time that Nicole is unable to work.

The goal is to raise $3000 to cover living costs for up to  8 weeks.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated!  We will post updates on Ben's status as they become available.
