Two thousand gets my power and water back on! I'm going to leave this up and take the goal higher so that I can work on getting the gas and internet on too.
While the gas isn't critical for heating in the summer, not having it means that I can't use my stove or oven, nor have hot water. Obviously, it would be nice to be able to take a hot shower at home, and cook on the stove.
I don't have to tell anyone how nice it would be to be able to access the internet at home again.
He is still on the ventilator, and still running a sizeable fever. They are hoping to pull his chest tubes today. I am glad he got to sleep through having them in, but I really do wish he were awake and could talk to me.
My husband Bear became unable to work three years ago, and a year ago, we had a water leak that ran our bill up to $2000. Anderson bundles their water and electricity bills, so before we could get any money together, they turned it all off....the gas and the internet too. We lived with my husband's father for nine months, but then he went into a nursing home....so we moved back to our home, and lived without utilities.
We were scraping along, putting a little here and there towards the big bill, but then he had what we thought was an asthma attack on May 27. It put him into the hospital, and he wound up having a quintuple bypass on May 5. He has also been diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes and sleep apnea. We already knew about the COPD and the asthma and his intolerance of temperature extremes, hot or cold, or too much humidity.
I can't bring him home without the utilities on; he's got to have electricity to run the CPAP machine, and his insulin will need refrigeration. If he is to eat properly to lose weight and keep his diabetes in check, I'll need the electricity and gas on, and the internet is our main source of news, connection, and entertainment in general, since we don't have a TV.
$2000 pays off the bundled electric and water bills. The remaining money goes for the gas bill and the internet. He has applied for disability, but we are not sure when that will come through.
I'm JG in MD on DK and I love to read your diaries. My bills get paid each month by the skin of my teeth and I'm grateful every month that when I sink below the waterline I bob up again somehow. I'm so sorry you couldn't. Best of everything to you and Bear.
