Help Pay Immigration Attorney Fees

Meet this father and 13 year-old son from Guatemala. They left the crushing poverty of their lives in Guatemala - paid coyotes (loans) to get them to the US border. They traveled through New Mexico into the detention center at El Paso Texas. They came to the US looking for the American Dream - but instead found themselves living in a compound - with a few other immigrants - in the middle of nowhere, working with chain saws all day, everyday. They were at the mercy of the 'boss' called 'Don'. He took them to the laundromat once a week. They paid for food. This was exploitation. And the son was not enrolled in school - they were in an abusive situation.
A group of activists and pastors rescued them. We were able to get them bus tickets so they could be reunited with family members living in MA. The family members also suffered at the hands of DHS - detention, the ice box, family separation...the list goes on.
The 13 year-old son is now enrolled in school, and is doing well. He is learning English. They are both a great help to their extended family and they are trying to establish a new life here in the US.
The abusive 'boss' they were living with before has received the father's passport and refuses to send it to him without a fee. Obtaining a passport is an ICE requirement. He calls the father's wife - who is still in Guatemala - to harass and intimidate her.
We have been fighting to change his ICE check-ins and court appearances to MA. Today we won that battle - but we didn't win the war.
The story is not over.
They need to file for asylum. That means they need an immigration attorney. The fee, for this leg of the journey, is $2K. The fee for the total court costs will be closer to $8K.
Any amount you can contribute to help this family realize the American Dream is greatly appreciated! At this point of utter despair for our nation, I like to focus on the people that I can help real time. And this is a family that you can help.
