Roberto Vally: Artist’s History and Donation Plea

When my 4th grade music teacher asked me what instrument I wanted to play, “the BASS” couldn’t come out of my mouth fast enough. Of all the stringed instruments, I was intrigued by its sheer presence and size.  On 2 strings Mr. Rosen showed me how to play Frère Jacques. I was hooked… love at first pluck. Thanks, Mr. Rosen, where ever you are!

My formative years were spent in New York City. From 1975-1978 I attended New York City's legendary High School of Music and Art—depicted in Fame (1980 film). Enriching my education in music theory and classical bass I studied at Julliard from 1976-1978. So while being formally groomed classically, in the “streets,” I was entrenched in the vast musical sounds of the city. Jazz, Latin, Funk, Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Soul all became an integral part of my musical passions and palette.

Eager to get “on the road,” I spent years traveling and performing with notable artists around the world, mostly in the Jazz and Smooth Jazz genres. Those multi-cultural experiences took my already broad musical repertoire to a whole other level. Styles like Reggae, Bossa Nova, Samba, Tango…artists like King Sunny Adé and Salif Keïta—all opened up my understanding to the limitless possibilities of music.  I’ve also been blessed to co-write and record with dozens of artists, nationally and internationally—George Benson, Boz Scaggs, Christopher Cross, Randy Crawford, Spyro Gyra, Michael Franks, Bobby Caldwell, Al Jarreau Diane Shore, to name but a few.

Inspired and encouraged, in 2014 I debuted my first solo album, BOOM BOOM BOOM. It’s an eclectic mix of chill, lounge, world music and smooth jazz. Happily, its been well received by fans and critics alike. If you don’t already know it, definitely check it out: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/robertovally

Now I’m chomping at the bit to create my second album…and I need your help! But keeping “non-mainstream” music alive certainly has its challenges. Being an indie artist means creating, managing, financing, promoting, all aspects of your project, on your own. The upside is, not relying on a “label” means artistic freedom, and that’s priceless. Nonetheless, there are costs and that’s why I’m reaching out. I’ve learned a lot about the “process” and “business” with Boom Boom Boom and I know with your help this next CD is going to be even badder than the last…

So would you please help me reach my goal of raising $20,000…and at the same time, be a part of keeping indie music alive!  Pledge now to one of the reward levels below or give any amount by clicking the "DONATE NOW" button.
