Team TREHL is their name--the first letter of each of their names: Trinity, Rory, Ella, Horton and Lucy. Together in true DI fashion--they interlock in a crossword on the front of their shirts to make an amazing team!
Some have been doing DI since 1st grade, this team has been together for two years and had a goal to reach states and made it to Destination Imagination at Global Finals in Knoxville, TN!!
For those who don't know, Destination Imagination ("DI") is an organization that sponsors and supports creativity among kids ( www.idodi.org). Starting in the Fall, DI announces several competition categories for teams to choose from that focus on skills such as acting, improv, science, and engineering. All of the activities are student driven and the kids are responsible for creating and presenting their team solutions. TREHL is doing the "fine arts" category that has created their own mystery story that must be presented using "traverse staging." The kids started working on their solution as soon as the categories were announced and they have been refining it every since.
While our team is sponsored by the school district, it is parent lead and financed almost exclusively by parents and through donations from our schools and supporters! Academic and arts activities like DI help fill an important void in our kids' education as arts programs are facing funding cutbacks and schools are increasingly under pressure to perform on standardized tests.
Global Finals, which kicks off on May 24, hosts teams from virtually ever state and more than 30 teams from across the world. Teams travel to the University of Tennessee to compete against the best of the best from around the globe. That means registration, transportation, housing, and lodging expenses for the team, coaches, and parents. Any support you can provide is greatly appreciated and all funds will be conservatively managed.
