Weird Science - Global Finals!

The Weird Science Co-op is comprised of a fantastic group homeschoolers who gather to compete in events such as FIRST Lego League and Destination Imagination. The kids have had a very successful year and we have *two* teams who have qualified to attend the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, TN, from May 24-28.

All year long the kids have been using their ingenuity, acting ability, and scientific skills to solve a problem and present their solution to the judges. All work must be of the students and by the students. If they want to build something, they need to come up with the design, figure out the materials, and do all assembly themselves. No parent or coach input is allowed. The program emphasizes using materials creatively - not 'purchasing' their solution - so teams have a $150 budget for all things used in their solutions. 

However at Global Finals, the actual competition is a small part of the week-long festival. There will be skills workshops, industry professionals (in the arts, engineering, aerospace research, you name it) on hand to show the kids how all of these skills they have been honing can be applied to their future careers, meeting students from around the world, excursions to local sites, and then there are all of the fun events like the duct tape ball (where kids make their own attire out of duct tape and dance the night away).

With five of the kids leaving the team next year, we've reached the end of an era and would love to have it end on a high note.

The base cost for event itself is $750 per person (for lodging, meals, and competition fees). There will also be travel expenses, prop shipping expenses, and additional miscellaneous expenses for things like the state DI tshirt that all are required to purchase - all those things that really add up when you need to multiply it by twenty.

We need to make a $3000 deposit by April 15th and the balance must be paid by May 6th.
