Colin Cassady  LONG BEACH, CA
On March 31st, my brother, Colin Cassady, was in a very serious Pole Vaulting accident, with a severe brain injury, skull fracture and lung contusion. This morning, April 1st, he underwent surgery, and is still unconscious and unresponsive. Doctors are monitoring the pressure in his head after removing the right side of his skull, placing it into his abdomen for safe keeping until they can replace it in approximately 2 months. Doctors anticipate a 2 week hospital stay in ICU. Our family is so fortunate to have a wonderful support group of family and friends. Colin must be in at least 100 prayer circles around the world. The ICU family waiting room has been almost full for the past 24 hours with our awesome friends and family in support of his surgery and recovery. Unfortunately this type of injury and treatment is costly. While the ICU does not allow flowers, we humbly request a donation in honor of Colin to cover his current and future medical costs. Any amount is appreciated and gratefully accepted. From our family to yours, God Bless.

Progress has been absolutely amazing and miraculous! Our family has been so blessed! Colin is back living in Long Beach, attending CSULB part time this semester, driving, working part time, and getting his life put back together. He just had a follow up with his neuro surgeon and sports injury specialist. Just 6 months into recovery and He has been given the green light for running/sprinting activities and doing pop-ups

It's been a few weeks since the last update and since today is Colin's birthday, we have had a weekful of great updates to share with everyone! After confirmation of NO post surgical bleed on his most recent CT scan, Finally no more meds!!! Getting off the Keppra (anti-seizure) will allow more focus, energy, and coordination and concentration. With school starting next week for him (yes he is going to take a summer class) this gift couldn't come at a better time! Colin got approval to begin working out and exercising again :) thank goodness!!!! He's been itching to get back to his workouts! Also, doctor is allowing him to start driving (slowly of course and with supervision) and to begin getting back to work as well (again slowly). Colin has already been out driving twice and is doing so well!

Colin also got back on the track last weekend to support a friend. Instinct took over and coach Colin got to work making adjustments for Don during his attempts haha :) it was absolutely great to see Colin back in pole vault community. I know he has his eyes set on getting back vaulting as soon as the doctors will let him. Being just 13 weeks out, I'd say we may have to wait a bit for that :)

Our family is so blessed to have you all supporting us. You all are part of the reason we have come this far this quickly and thank you is not enough, but thank you!

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Got our shirts on the way! Seeing that pic of Colin practicing vaulting does not surprise me. I said from the beginning it would not be if he could do it again but when he will vault again. Nephew, you are one tough little son of a gun!

I do not know Colin, but his story has been shared through Facebook via a friend of a friend. My boyfriend suffered a TBI just over a year ago during a snowboarding accident at Bear Mountain (my picture is a current one of us within the last month). All of Colin's experiences are far too familiar to me. 2 weeks in a coma, 1 month in the ICU, watching fluctuating ICP numbers, breathing tubes, sedatives, etc. I stuck by his side as I watched him endure months of therapy, learning to breath, walk, talk, and eat all over again. There are a few reasons why I am writing: first and foremost, to Colin's family, you need to know that you are not alone. It may feel like you are fighting an impossible battle that you know nothing about, but there is so much information on the web and there are so many support groups out there that can answer a lot of the questions or concerns you may have (I follow a few support groups on Facebook). Also, based on the above passages on his progress, I am confident that he WILL wake up and am praying that he does. He is moving in all of the positive directions that my boyfriend did. Which leads me to my next topic: to all of Colin's friends who are visiting him in the hospital right now, it is 10 times more important that you continue to be in his life after he wakes up. You all need to know and be prepared for the fact that he will be different, but it is so important that you continue to love, respect, and support him through his progress every step of the way, because he is in for a long road to recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with you Colin and to your family!!! May you be blessed with an amazing and speedy recovery!
