If it Weren't for bad luck.....
It all started a little over a month ago when a steady, hard working, employee of mine was mugged in front of his own house. They took his wallet, cell phone, and just for good measure, slashed his leg with a knife. He spent the weekend in the hospital and on doctors orders, missed a week of work. Then, last week he had to take off two days of work to help his wife who had hip replacement surgery. Money is extremely tight for them because of all of the medical bills and missed work.
Then this past Tuesday happened. His wife called my work cellphone in tears asking me if I could have Melvin come home, that there was a situation.
He called me later that evening asking for the next day off of work, because he needed to find a place to stay.
Their house and everything they owned was gone. An electrical fire started next door, the fire spread to their home and it is all gone.
My wife and I have brought it up to co-workers and and friends, and are getting things together for Melvin and his wife. Things like a Bible, toiletries, pots and pans, one woman offered a dining room table. We are getting clothes and comfort items gathered. But as of right now, they have no where to put it. No where to call home.
My wife and I are hoping to get some money flowing in to get them into at least an apartment for now. Please, anything you can do to help would be appreciated.
