The Road To Nickelsville

Can this happen to anyone?

The residents of Nickelsville, a homeless camp in Seattle Washington, struggle to regain once normal lives.

The film, The Road to Nickelsville looks back on people’s life events and/or decisions that lead to homelessness and consider, can this happen to anyone? The Nickelsville community members once had normal lives. What happened?

Stage of production: At least three Nickesville residents (featured at www.trtn.film ) have been interviewed twice, and have already moved on to both better, and worse situations as I’ve been following their journey. Although I’ve captured interviews from two others, I’m currently pursuing local officials and community members for balanced context. Once this is complete, the majority of funding will go towards the effort of editing. I’m estimating I’m two months into an eight to twelve month project.

For anyone who considers themselves an advocate for the homeless, this film could be critical in reaching a broad audience to help individualize, and make relatable, homeless people, which would of course lead to broader support for charities and services. Spread the word.

About me: I’ve been making a living at documenting and storytelling all my life. First, as an Air Force photographer, then as an advertising and design art director telling the stories of products and brands . Over the years in Seattle I’ve worked on everything from Tree top apple juice ads to software design at Windows.

I’ve always been driven to touch people. To make them think. To question their assumptions. Maybe Tree Top actually does take greater care in their apples. Maybe Windows is actually better than Mac in some ways. Maybe homelessness can happen to you, too. No? Come with me on this journey and meet the people of Nickelsville. They didn't think so either.

Timing? Funding will determine whether I focus entirely on this film and finish within months, versus an estimated year if unfunded.
